MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The mayor of Wisconsin’s capital city has placed the municipal clerk on leave as investigators work to determine how almost 200 ballots in the November election went uncounted. Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway announced Wednesday that she has placed City Clerk Maribeth Witzel-Behl on administrative leave pending the outcome of a city investigation. The Madison city clerk’s office discovered 67 unprocessed ballots on Nov. 12 and another 125 uncounted ballots on Dec. 2 but didn’t notify the Wisconsin Elections Commission until Dec. 18. The commission launched its own investigation in January and plans to depose city workers, including Witzel-Behl.
