Wisconsin’s Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week has been designated for April 7-11, 2025. The Statewide Tornado Drill will be Thursday, April 10th, with a mock “Tornado Warning” issued at approximately 1:45 p.m. The Drill will conclude at 2:00 p.m. A second drill will be conducted later in the day with a mock “Tornado Warning” being issued at 6:45 p.m. Having two drills allows people to practice at work, school and at home. If severe weather is present in the State on this date, the drill will be held at approximately the same time on Friday, April 11th. If severe weather persists through Friday, the drill will be cancelled. Remember, the City of Waupun NEVER sounds the sirens for an all- clear signal.
TORNADO & SEVERE WEATHER INFORMATION
EMERGENCY PLAN:
- Have a N.O.A.A. Weather Alert Radio. Outdoor warning sirens are NOT meant to alert
people indoors!
- Create an emergency plan.
- Know where your safe shelter area is. The basement or an inner–most room are best.
- Prepare a disaster supply kit. A good rule of thumb is 3 days‘ worth of supplies.
- Practice your plan.
TORNADO WATCH:
- Sirens do not sound for a “WATCH“.
- A “WATCH” means weather conditions are favorable for a tornado to form.
- Listen to the radio, television, or a NOAA Weather Radio.
- Monitor conditions and be prepared to go to your shelter area.
- Check to make sure you have necessary supplies available.
- Please don’t call the police or fire department for information.
TORNADO WARNING:
- Sirens will sound for a “WARNING“.
- A “WARNING” means a tornado has been spotted in the area or is indicated on radar.
- Listen to the radio, television, or N.O.A.A. Weather Radio.
- Have a battery–operated radio and flashlight.
- Stay inside. Know where your family members are.
- Go to your safe shelter area you picked out beforehand. 7. The siren is NEVER sounded for an all clear signal.
AFTER A TORNADO OR SEVERE WEATHER PASSES:
- Listen to the radio for information and instructions.
- Inspect your home for damage. Take pictures of any damage before cleaning it up.
- Watch out for fallen power lines and leaking gas. Assume downed wires are energized!
- Stay out of the damaged areas. Excess traffic slows down the Emergency Responders and
the City’s response to the incident!
