A lockdown at the Taycheedah Women’s prison that has been in place since last week for safety reasons could be lifted by Tuesday. The modified lockdown was implemented last Wednesday following multiple fights between inmates. A letter to TCI staff and inmates from the Department of Corrections, obtained by WFDL news, states “ the recent incidents have created a risk to the security of the institution and the safety of all.” “The overriding mission of Taycheedah Correctional Institution is to ensure the safety of the public, our staff and the inmate by operating a safe, secure and humane institution,” according to the letter. The letter goes on to say that all attempts will be made to allow visits, showers will be offered to each inmate at least once over 2 or 3 days, and phone calls will be allowed for emergency purposes with supervisory approval.
