Across the nation, scammers target the elderly in fraudulent schemes. One such scam, the grandparent scam, occurs when victims are told that a grandchild is under arrest and needs bail money. The grandparent is then instructed to wrap the money a certain way and give it to a ride-share service driver. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the same type of scam. Earlier this month a rural resident of Dodge County received a call that her grandson was in jail and needed money for bail. The resident then received a second call from someone claiming to be her grandson’s attorney. The resident gave the bail money to an unknown male subject who showed up at her front door. A sketch artist worked with the victim and developed a sketch of the suspect. The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who has identifying information regarding the suspect, to contact Detective Michael Lake at 920-386-3726.
