6-26-23 wisconsin governor signs affordable housing bills

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers has signed five bipartisan measures to bolster affordable housing across the state. Republicans who control the Legislature’s budget-writing committee set aside more than half a billion dollars to fund new loan programs for developers and landlords created by the bills. The measures Evers signed into law on Thursday also set limits on who can challenge permitting decisions for housing projects and require that local governments approve permits for residential housing projects that meet local standards. Evers called the bills critical to addressing economic challenges and making Wisconsin more friendly to workers.
