6-27-23 study: high cardiovascular risk score may be linked to lower cognitive function

A Fond du Lac cardiologist says new research that suggests a high cardiovascular risk score may be linked to lower cognitive function is a great confirmatory finding.  The study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association found that the higher a person’s 10 year cardiovascular risk score, the worse they scored on tests for cognitive function.   SSM Health Greater Fond du lac cardiologist, Dr. Tadeo Balderrama says that  other small studies previously published did link increased cardiovascular risk to worsening cognition.  Balderrama says what’s good for the heart is good for the brain.  Balderrama says while some of the risk factors in the calculator can’t be changed, many can be.   There’s not much  you can do about your age, but you can engage in a healthy lifestyle, by excercising and eating a healthy diet.
