The city is hoping a former downtown tavern can be converted into much needed housing. The city will be applying for a $250,000 state economic development grant to support a $1.4 million renovation of the former Beernuts/Brickle building on South Main Street. City manager Joe Moore says the property will be used for housing and commercial space. Moore says additional residential units will add to a much-needed inventory of housing options in the downtown. The historic building was constructed in 1880.
