The Fond du Lac School Board continues to discuss it’s options facing a potential record budget deficit. The school board held a workshop session this week to discuss the 2024-25 preliminary budget. School District chief of Finance and Operations Mike Gerlach says the District faces a $5.2 million deficit in next year’s budget. He says one option is asking voters for permission to spend money through an operations referendum. Superintendent Dr. Jeff Fleig says he believes the District will ultimately have to go to referendum. Fond du Lac is not alone. Across the state because of budget deficits some districts are considering school closures and others are turning to taxpayers for more money.
