The project manager for the Interstate 41 project says signs will start going up this summer. Governor Walker announced last week the Federal Highway Administration approved the Interstate designation. Project manager Bryan Liepke told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program that former Fond du Lac congressman Tom Petri played a huge role. “Tom Petri was approached by a lot of the economic development groups and the chambers of commerce located along Highway 41 and they were voicing to him concerns that as sister cities competing with other population centers not located on an interstate they were at an economic disadvantage,” Liepke said. Liepke says installation of about 3,000 new signs will begin this summer and completed by November. Liepke says Interstates provide a corridor identity, which encourages growth.
