Adventure out on Saturday, December 21, at 6:30 p.m. as we celebrate the beginning of a new solar year and explore one of the longest nights of the year! Meet at the Kettle Moraine State Forest – Northern Unit’s Zillmer Trails shelter building. The trailhead is located at W833 County Road SS, Campbellsport, which is just west of New Prospect. A Wisconsin State Park System vehicle admission sticker is required. In the warmth of the blazing fire, join Jackie Scharfenberg, Retired Forest Naturalist, and Tom Lentz, Volunteer Master Naturalist, as they explain some of the many winter solstice traditions from around the world. After everyone bundles up, the naturalists will lead about a one mile walk through the peaceful, dark winter woods to explore how nature copes with the longest night of the year. After the hike and back at the shelter, people can make a solstice pledge for the coming year. For more information about this fun-filled night hike or directions, contact the Friends of the Kettle at (920) 313-1566 or via email at friendsofthekettlemoraine@gmail.com. People do not need to pre-register for the hike. Hope you can join us as we honor the Winter Solstice!
