Date: Weds., December 18, 9 am – 3 pm
Location: The Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds Rec Building 520 Fond du Lac Ave, Fond du Lac, WI 54935
Summary: The county’s oldest annual children’s gift distribution will share Christmas toys and gifts to help parents and guardians provide 1200 children (eligible for this year’s program) with something new to open Christmas morning.
This year’s distribution marks the return of The Toy Shop, the opportunity for parents to choose gifts their children would like best from an array of gifts.
Crystal Champeau, Social Services Manager shared, “The Toy Shop gives parents opportunity to feel more deeply involved in the process of providing Christmas for their children because they “shop” or choose the gifts for their children themselves.”
This is a 4 month process of planning, collection, and coordination. An army of community volunteers circles around The Salvation Army, donating upwards of two thousand hours of time to set up and serve. Businesses and organizations serve as Toys for Tots and Angel Tree hosts.
Even as The Salvation Army coordinates Christmas for 1200, it also conducts its largest annual Red Kettle Campaign fundraiser. Champeau notes that Fond du Lac turns their red kettles GOLD each December 1 to reflect back the kindness it sees. “It is a joy to serve in a community as this, united in kindness and compassion for each other, selflessly sharing time, talent and treasure to make a meaningful impact. “
