A former Fond du Lac city councilmember has been indicted by a federal grand jury for arson, accused of setting fire to the restaurant she owned to claim the insurance money.  According to a press release from the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, a federal grand jury returned a four-count indictment against 43 year old Arletta Allen.  Allen is charged with arson of a commercial building, wire fraud, attempted wire fraud, and making false statements to law enforcement.  She is accused of setting fire to  “A Family Affair Soulfood Kitchen” on South Main Street in October of 2021.  The indictment alleges Allen executed a scheme to defraud Germantown Mutual Insurance Company by setting fire to the restaurant, and lied to police on multiple occasions about her activities and location prior to the fire.  The charges carry a maximum penalty of 55 years in prison.
