1-31-25 fdl police chief says convicted child sex offender is a danger to the public and needs to be locked up

The Fond du Lac Police Chief says a high risk child sex offender who cut off his GPS bracelet  this week is a danger and needs to be behind bars.  Chad Maertz was on extended supervision for an attempted child abduction in Fond du Lac County 20 years ago.  Police Chief Aaron Goldstein says Maertz had made very concerning comments to probation and parole agents in the days leading up to the incident.  Goldstein says shortly after police announced they were looking for Maertz public tips started rolling in.  Police learned that Maertz had purchased a rental car and entered the vehicle into the FLOCK license plate recognition camera system…tracking Maertz to a Germantown Walmart store where he was arrested.   Goldstein says he believes Maertz needs to be locked up to protect the public.   “We’re going to do everything in our investigation, we’re going to put the best case forward working with probati0n and parole to ensure that he doesn’t see the light of day.”
