8-26-15 gudex-baldwin statements on oshkosh defense contract

The Department of Defense has awarded the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle contract to Oshkosh Defense.   Republican state senator Rick Gudex of Fond du lac says the $6.7 billion contract is expected to support thousands of jobs in the Fox Valley.   “This is great news for the Oshkosh Corporation and the entire Fox Valley area.  The Oshkosh Corporation and its employees play an integral part in the economy for our state.  This new contract should be very beneficial to the company, its investors, and those who were laid off as a result of defense contract spending reductions.  I’m encouraging those looking for work to apply for the jobs that this contract award is sure to provide.  I’m also happy that we have worker training programs available all across the state. The Wisconsin Fast Forward Program is in place and will be available to help get those looking for these jobs the training that this new opportunity will offer,”  Gudex said.
U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin released the following statement after the Pentagon  announced that Oshkosh Defense will build the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV). Senator Baldwin has supported legislation to fund and move the JLTV project forward.   “Oshkosh Defense has long-provided our men and women in uniform with the safest and highest quality vehicles as they fight on an ever-evolving battlefield. I am proud of everyone at Oshkosh Defense for putting together this winning bid that will ensure our troops continue to operate Made in Wisconsin equipment,” said Senator Baldwin.   “At Oshkosh, we have been building tactical vehicles right here in Wisconsin for the Department of Defense for 90 years. Our employees know that our Warfighters’ lives may one day depend on Oshkosh vehicles to get them to the fight, complete the mission, and get them home safely. Winning the JLTV production contract is an enormous responsibility that we are honored to accept,” said John M. Urias, U.S. Army Major General (Retired), Oshkosh Corporation Executive Vice President and President of Oshkosh Defense.
