A Fond du Lac middle school student committed to the Lincoln Hills School for Boys for setting fire to a Fond du Lac business was questioned by police about the arson fire that destroyed a former convent. The 14 year old boy was recently adjudicated in Juvenile Court on a charge of arson. Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase says the boy broke into Boudry Electric where he set multiple fires, putting them out with fire extinguishers. “I don’t know if it was more fun for them using the fire extinguishers or starting the fires. Now he’s going to sit for a while and hopefully we can help get him re-established back into the city once he learns the importance of not playing with fire and vandalizing.” Several cars and other equipment were stored inside the building. Clean up costs from the smoke and fire damage totaled about $70,000. Meanwhile, the boy has denied any involvement in the June fire that destroyed a vacant convent building and another fire on Johnson Street. Witnesses said they saw the boy near the scene. Assistant police chief Steve Klein says police have questioned a lot of people but would not say if this boy was questioned and are not calling anybody a suspect at this time. The boy’s father is in prison.
