Fond du Lac city officials are in discussion with the state Department of Transportation on transferring jurisdiction of Highway 45 through the city of Fond du lac from the state to the city. The Fond du Lac city council was apprised of the proposed transfer at their meeting this week. Matt Haladay is a transportation planner with the Department of Transportation. Haladay says perhaps the biggest disadvantage would come decades down the road when a reconstruction of the highway is needed. But he says overall its a favorable move for both the city and the state. Under the proposed agreement the state would pay the city $14 million over the next decade. Public Works director Jordan Skiff says the big advantage for the city is that having jurisdiction gives the city more flexibility.
