The City of Fond du Lac Police Department recently relocated their Drug Drop Box into their lobby from the parking lot at 126 North Main Street, Fond du Lac. The City of Fond du Lac had the first permanent Drug Drop Box in the State of Wisconsin open for business in 2008. A ribbon cutting was held Monday to introduce the new location of the Drug Drop Box in the lobby of the City of Fond du Lac Police Department. Fond du Lac County has a total of six Drug Drop Boxes – four alone in this area. In addition to Fond du Lac, they are located at North Fond du Lac Police Department, 16 Garfield Street and Village of Oakfield Police Department/Village Office, 130 Main Street and Campbellsport Police Department/Village Office 177 E. Main Street. These boxes are available to all county residents to bring their old, expired or no longer needed prescription medications for disposal year round. Since opening the first Drug Drop Box in the State of Wisconsin at the City of Fond du Lac Police Department more than 10 million pills have been collected in Fond du Lac County. “A drug drop off program like this helps dispose of drugs that are no longer needed in a safe way, preventing accidental overuse or abuse. This is a great convenience for the people of Fond du Lac County as they don’t have to wait for a yearly collection to drop off their medications,” shared Village of North Fond du Lac Police Chief and member of Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County Darren Pautsch. Local law enforcement agencies are asking residents to zip through their medicine cabinets and zip off to the local Drug Drop Box with medications in their original bottles and empty the bottles into a zip-lock bag (provided at the box) and deposit the drugs for disposal on or before April 23rds.
