1-13-17 uw madison professor says dnr shift on climate change a violation of public trust

A UW Madison professor who signed a letter ripping the DNR for changing its website language on climate change says he hopes the agency isn’t backing away from science.    Seven UW Madison climate, zoology and ecology professors say the new language incorrectly implies climate change is mysterious when its clearly caused by greenhouse gases produced  by burning fossil fuels.  Professor Stephen Carpenter is the director of the UW Madison Limnology Department.  “I was dismayed and disappointed,”  Carpenter told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.  “Climate change is a fact and humans are part of the cause.”   Carpenter says failing to properly inform the public is a violation of trust and say the DNR is turning its back on its own tradition of applying the best science available in the public interest.
