The president of School Choice-Wisconsin says he thinks Betsy Devos will help return more local control to states as education Secretary. Jim Bender was in Washington D.C. this week for the Devos confirmation hearing. “I believe the biggest winners out of Betsy Devos being the new secretary of education are actually innovated public school districts,” Bender told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program. “The overarching theme I believe she is going to be pushing is that the federal government has a tendency to play too big a role in education. I believe she is going to push many more decisions down to the state and local level.” Bender says Devos has had a lot to do with expansion of the private school voucher program in Wisconsin and across the country.
