The Fond du Lac School Board president says he can’t comment in detail after the board met in closed session with legal counsel this week to discuss the high school gym floor. Board president Mark Jurgella told WFDL news the meeting was scheduled after the district received a letter from the company that installed the floor. The company stated that school officials made false and unfair claims about the quality of the workmanship. Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert told the school board in February that the floor started failing only a couple years after it was installed 16 years ago and now needs to be replaced at a cost estimated at $350,000. Jurgella said he could not comment further, other than to say work to replace the floor will begin after the school year ends. Back in February Jurgella said he had been told other schools who had gym floors installed by the same contractor had problems with their floors as well. The hardwood floor was installed when the new high school was built in 2001. The district has already spent thousands of dollars replacing hundreds of
floor boards every year for the last several years.
