A Fond du Lac man is fortunate after falling into the “Big Hole” harbor at the Lakeside Park marina. Rescue personnel were called to G Dock about 8pm Wednesday for a report of a man who had fallen in the water and was struggling to hang onto the dock. “He certainly was in distress and was having trouble holding on so thankfully someone got to him when they did,” Fire chief Pete O’Leary told WFDL news at the scene. “He was struggling to hold on when we got there.” O’Leary says rescue personnel used a rope to haul the man out of the water. “They use a tactic with a rope where they basically kind of handcuff him and take it around him and pull. The other thing we try to do is get a flotation device on that person.” O’Leary says its fortunate that someone heard the man screaming for help. “Absolutely. He could have drowned.” Paramedics checked the man out at the scene and he was able to go home, wet and tired, but otherwise okay.
