A Fond du Lac High School transgender student says a new School district anti-harrassment policy is a step in the right direction. The Fond du Lac School Board last week approved the new policy that includes gender identity and transgender status. Student Brianna Burgess brought the issue to the school board’s attention last year. “I feel like its a huge step in the right direction mostly because we didn’t have any protections in place for transgender students to begin with,” Burgess told AM 1170s Between the Lines program. Robbie Brown is the editor of the Cardinal Columns newspaper. “I feel great about it. It shows that student activism can go places,” Brown said. In addition to the new policy the high school has also addressed the students’ concerns to let transgender students to use the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity by adding two gender-neutral bathrooms.
