3-8-18 fdl county parks director says people need to have their dogs on leashes at hobbs woods

The Fond du Lac County Parks director says dogs may be banned  from Hobbs Woods if residents continue to walk their pet dogs off leash in the park.  Sam Tobias says the issue of dogs at the popular county recreation trail has been “high on the list” of people participating in two listening sessions held this year.  Tobias says  a county ordinance requires pet owners to have their dogs on a leash in any county park.  “There’s the threat, or the fear of loss of dogs at Hobbs Woods if people don’t start complying,”  Tobias told WFDL news.  “It doesn’t mean its going to happen but its a step that we could look at and so we want to encourage people to follow the county ordinance of leashing your dogs.”  Tobias said he wants people to enjoy the county parks.  “But please, please, please, leash your dog and keep them on a leash.”   Meanwhile, Tobias says maintenance work is also necessary to shore up trails that have eroded over the years.  He says other trails, not original to the park, have also caused problems.  “Over the course of the next two months we’re going to go through the park with a GPS surveying device and map all the trails,”  Tobias said.  “Then were going to lable them as what are the actual trails and what are the “volunteer trails.”   Tobias says its clear Fond du Lac County is in need of additional park space.   He says one option may be eventually expanding Hobbs Woods.
