Four counties, including Fond du Lac County and the Oneida Nation, are coming together to fight for clean water. Fond du Lac, Brown, Outagamie and Winnebago counties and the Oneida Nation this week signed a first of its kind Water Quality Pact at the 20th annual Watershed Conference in Green Bay. Calumet County is expected to join as well. Fond du Lac County executive Al Buechel says the goal is to make a long term commitment to protect waterways by reducing phosphorous in the water system. “We’re working with farmers in Fond du lac County. Landowners, households have to recognize that they have a part in this and can do more to help the run-off from their yards,” Buechel told WFDL news. The pact creates a steering committee to develop a plan between land owners and municipalities on best practices.
