The Fond du Lac Fire Chief is warning people to be safe with fireworks as they celebrate the Fourth of July. Chief Pete O’Leary says his recommendation is to leave the fireworks to the professionals. “There are great shows in Fond du Lac and other places. This year we have two of them on the fourth and the fifth. People love to get out, a great time in the summer, love fireworks shows and there are a lot of vendors and a lot of people selling fireworks inside of the city. Those fireworks sold the city are legal,” O’Leary told WFDL news. O’Leary says as a rule of thumb, if it explodes or leaves the ground, its illegal. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission about 280 people a day, from mid-June to mid-July each year, seek treatment for fireworks-related injuries.
