The Fond du Lac city manager says the overall tax rate will be down in a proposed 2020 budget. Nobody spoke at a public hearing during Wednesday night’s Fond du Lac city council meeting. City Manager Joe Moore says the budget does not include an additional ambulance crew, or six new positions as requested by the fire chief. Moore says with revenue limits, the city can’t afford to do that at this time. Instead, starting next year the city council will discuss the possibility of funding public safety positions through a referendum. Top capital improvements in the budget include $3.2 million for a new Lakeside Park pavilion, over $1 million for a new fire department ladder truck and a new roundabout at Rienzi Road and Fond du lac Avenue. Councilmember Ben Giles asked the council to reconsider the pavilion project. The council will vote to approve the budget at their November 13 meeting.
