KING, Wis. (AP) — Nearly 3,500 wreaths will be laid on the graves of veterans at a King cemetery during the holiday season. The local effort at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery is part of a national initiative that aims to honor members of the armed forces. Wreaths Across America began in 1992 at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. American Legion Riders Chapter 8 President Ray McSherry of Wisconsin Rapids says his group ultimately plans to lay wreaths on all of the cemetery’s 6,500 graves. He says he encourages participants to research fallen veterans after wreaths are laid on their graves. The local Riders chapter purchases the $15 wreaths with fundraising money collected throughout the year.
