The votes were tallied Monday in several local contested races from last week’s spring election. Mark Strand has been re-elected to another term on the Fond du Lac School Board. Strand was the top vote getter in last week’s election. Strand was first appointed to the board to fill a vacancy in 2010 and has been re-elected since. Challenger Rick Gedemer defeated Ish Harris for the seat vacated by Monica Walk. Gedemer ran unsuccesfully for the board last year. He started speaking at school board meetings several years ago shortly after a Fond du Lac High School student’s bizarre social media post scared most of the high school students into leaving the school early or not attending school at all. Fond du lac police investigated and ultimately determined what students and parents perceived as a threatening message was misinterpreted. For the next several board meetings Gedemer spoke in defense of the student who made the post, speaking often with religious tones, about what he described as the “forgotten students.” Stephen Chene and Jennie Patrykus were elected to the Waupun School Board. Julie Nickel has been re-elected Waupun mayor. Nickel easily won re-election with 1754 votes to challenger Jay Graff’s 323 votes. Challenger Theodore Grant was elected Ripon mayor, defeating incumbent Douglas Iverson. Waupun attorney Kristine Snow defeated Dodge County assistant district attorney James Sempf in the race for Dodge County Circuit judge. Snow won by a little more than 300 votes. There are at two new members on the Fond du Lac County board. Campbellsport police chief , and former board supervisor Tom Dornbrook defeated incumbent Joe Koch in the District 9 race and Brooke Hills defeated incumbent Martin Schroeder in District 16. Sarah Everson was re-elected to the District 5 seat. Challenger John Duffy was elected and incumbent Michael Will was re-elected to the North Fond du Lac village board. Gary Henker and Mark Horvath were elected village of Brandon trustees.
