The Fond du Lac Area Transit manager is urging people not to ride the bus unless it’s absolutely necessary. Transit manager Lynn Gilles says since the Safer at Home order was issued bus ridership is down about 65 percent. But Gilles says bus drivers are reporting there are still a lot of riders who do not need to be on the bus. “A lot of anechdotal stuff coming in from the drivers , a couple of middle-schoolers wanting to just go out and ride the bus. People who are going to Walmart every day,” Gilles told WFDL news. Gilles says several weeks ago transit cut approximately out service in the mornings and afternoons by 50 percent. She says large portions of the bus are taped off to keep passengers a safe distance from the driver. Gilles says the precautions are in place to keep everyone safe and healthy during the COVID-19 outbreak.
