4-30-20 fdl county sheriff says it’s fortunate nobody was hurt in arson fires

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff says it’s fortunate that nobody was hurt in a rash of arson fires dating back to last September.   Forty three year old Michael Miller faces 12 counts of arson, in addition to other charges.  Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says investigators believe Miller thought he was setting vacant properties on fire, but at least three of the buildings were occupied.  Waldschmidt says Miller’s actions put a lot of people in danger.  “The general risk to the public when you’re lighting fires in residential neighborhoods, it could spread to additional houses in the area that are occupied is always a risk and certainly the firefighters that are responding to these fires and having to make a determination when they arrive on scene.  Are there people inside?  Do we need to go inside and search the residence?”  Waldschmidt told WFDL news.  A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 7.   Miller is being held in jail on $200,000 cash bond.
