With professional fireworks shows being cancelled in communities across the state including Fond du Lac, due to COVID-19 fire safety professionals fear illegal consumer fireworks shows may be more prevalent this Fourth of July holiday. Fond du Lac Fire Chief Pete O’Leary says each year consumer fireworks are responsible for nearly 20,000 fires in the U.S. each year resulting in nearly 13,000 emergency room visits. Fond du Lac Fire Rescue demonstrated the dangerous effects of improper use of consumer fireworks at the City’s Public Safety Training Facility Wednesday.
