An assistant Fond du Lac police chief says the Fond du Lac police department is very proud of the trusting relationship it has built over the years with groups that represent the black community in Fond du Lac. Assistant chief Aaron Goldstein says the Fond du Lac police department has had ongoing dialogue over the last decade with groups like Ebony Vision and United for Diversity regarding inclusion and racial equity advancement. Goldstein says a social media post by an officer that was offensive to the black community is currently under administrative review and says more information will be released when the investigation is complete. Goldstein denies suggestions that there is a systemic racisim problem in the Department or that officers have profiled black residents. “We review 100 percent of our use of force, any complaint that comes into this police department, and fully investigate it,” Goldstein told WFDL news. “…as you look at incidents and reports, squad car video and personnel complaints, there’s nothing that shows there is a systemic issue of racism at the police department.” Goldstein says the department continues to look at ways to maintain and strengthen the relationship the department has with the black community. “Are we perfect? No. Obviously you can see as we’re sitting at the table we have faults,” Goldstein said. “But as we continue to get better, as we keep this conversation going, you’ll see that Fond du Lac is a model for others to follow.”
