MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker says he remains committed to cutting property taxes despite a looming $2.2 billion state budget shortfall. Walker traveled the state on Wednesday to tout a drop in property taxes that many homeowners will see on bills mailed this month. That is thanks to $406 million approved by Walker and the Legislature earlier this year to lower how much technical colleges can levy. Walker says the typical homeowner will pay $141 less in property taxes this year compared to 2010. Walker says he wants property taxes to be even lower in 2018 compared with this year. He hasn’t released his plan yet for how he intends to cut property taxes while also balancing the state budget. Walker told Senate Republicans that the budget shortfall presents “significant challenges.”
