The Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer is pleased with a Wisconsin judge’s ruling last week upholding governor Tony Evers’ statewide mask order. The judge ruled that the 60 day limit provides an important check against run-away executive power, but it does not prevent the governor from issuing a new executive order when the emergency conditions continue to exist. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says her first reaction is “thank goodness.” “When you look at an emergency order that can last for an x number of days, when you have a pandemic that is an unknown amount of days, I think that’s difficult in itself,” Mueller told WFDL news. “It’s the right thing.” The judge wrote in his decision that the Legislature has the power to terminate Evers’ order but has declined to do so.
