An off duty Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputy was on the scene and treated one of the victims at the Fox River Mall shooting last month. Sheriff’s deputy Blaine Evans was off duty, shopping at the Scheels sporting goods store when the shooting occurred. He identified himself to the store manager as an off duty officer and while reviewing store video surveillance identified a shooting victim on the sidewalk near the Scheels entrance. Evans exited the store and applied a pad to a gunshot wound on the victim’s hip to stop the bleeding and obtained more information about the shooter and what had taken place. The victim was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. One person was killed in the shooting. A suspect was arrested several days later in Iowa.
