A Beaver Dam man has been convicted in connection with a fatal drug-related car crash. Thirty six year old Dustin Vandergailen pled no contest to multiple charges including Homicide by Vehicle –Use of Controlled Substance 2nd or subsequent offense. According to a criminal complaint in July of 2019 Vandergailen was attempting to pass a vehicle on County Road E, when he collided with one car and struck another head on, killing a passenger, and seriously injuring several others. Investigators say Vandergailen was high on cocaine and had also been drinking prior to the crash. Vandergailen has two previous convictions for Operating While Intoxicated. A sentencing hearing has been set for September 15.
