The president of Envision Greater Fond du Lac says reaching a negotiated settlement following the city council’s decision to back out of an agreement with a business group over a development project at Lakeside Park would be an important first step in rebuilding the city’s relationship with the business community. During a closed door meeting last week the council discussed the possibility of reaching an out of court settlement with the group Lakeside Forward. Envision president Sadie Parafiniuk says if there is a negotiated settlement reached, she imagines it would be a “relief for the Lakeside Forward donors,” after they had committed a significant amount of money toward the development project. Parafiniuk says a settlement would end an alternative master plan at the park, and don’t look for any more private donations for city projects at least in the near future. “To have $6 million on the table for a development project that was more than a restaurant, it was a whole host of opportunities in development in the Lakeside Park area,” Parafiniuk told WFDL news. “Will $6 million ever come up again? No. Not anytime soon.”
