A Beaver Dam toddler reported missing has been found safe, but a technical problem with the phone alert system had some residents outside the search area wondering why they were alerted. Early Monday morning at the request of Beaver Dam police, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office activated the Child Abduction Response Team, for a missing two year old child. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says the Dodge County Communications Center utilized its automated alert phone system with the intention that it would be sent only to residents in the immediate vicinity of the incident but due to a technical issue, the alert was distributed to a much larger area than intended. That prompting calls from residents with concerns about the incident or wondering why they were receiving the alert, especially if they lived some distance from the area. Schmidt says he apologizes to residents who received this alert inadvertently and says the Sheriff’s Office is working with the service provider to resolve the technical issue to ensure it works as intended in the future.
