3-11-22 Covid-19 Pandemic two year Anniversary

anniversary

Friday marks the two year anniversary of the first positive cases of COVID-19 reported in Fond du Lac County.  Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says one of the first patients had been on a cruise ship in Egypt and was hospitalized.  “Looking back it seems like it took forever,  like an eternity we have been dealing with this,”  Mueller told WFDL news.  “But at the same time when I look back and it’s been two years already I feel like, wow,  how could that be two years?”  Mueller says it was frustrating that at the time because getting tested for the virus was difficult.  Two years later there have been more than 29,000 positive COVID-19 cases in Fond du Lac County and 220 COVID-19 deaths.  Two years after the pandemic began, more countries are shifting toward a return to normal and learning to live with the virus.  Some questions remain about the virus.  Studies are underway to better understand long COVID-19, which can persist for months after an initial infection.  And scientists are on the lookout for the next fast-spreading variant.   But for now it appears we are in a much better place.
