Several homes and businesses in Fond du Lac have been evacuated following an apparent chlorine leak at Milk Specialties in Fond du Lac. Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue’s Hazmat Team was called to the scene on Thompkins Street shortly before 11:30am Thursday after receiving a report of a yellow fog coming out of the building. Fire Chief Pete O’Leary says HazMat crews entered the building shortly after 1pm to locate and work to stop the leak. O’Leary says once the leak is stopped crews will test the air quality and make sure it’s safe before residents are allowed to return to their homes. O’Leary says the concern is that depending on the concentration level inhalation of chlorine can be very dangerous. A several block area near the plant was evacuated from Ruggles Street to the north, Hickory Street to the west and Grove Street to the south.
