April is National Donate Life Month…to bring awareness to the importance of donation and encourage Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors. In Fond du Lac a special event was held Saturday at the Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts to encourage donation and honor those that have saved lives through the gift of donation. Nearly 20 years ago Brenda Cortez donated her kidney to someone she didn’t even know. Cortez says across the country thousands of people are in need of an organ transplant. Anyone 15 and a half or older with a Wisconsin driver’s license or ID can register to be a donor, regardless of health. You can register online at DonateLifeWisconsin.org. Cortez is the author of several books focusing on organ donation.
