4-20-22 avian influenza continues to spread

The Fond du Lac County Dairy and Livestock extension agent is encouraging owners of backyard poultry flocks to be diligent as new cases of the highly pathogenic avian influenza continue to spread in Wisconsin.  The state Department of Ag, Trade and Consumer Protection has identified new cases in Columbia, Polk and neighboring Sheboygan counties.  Fond du Lac County extension agent Tina Kohlman says anyone working around poultry needs to increase their bioscecurity measures and report any signs of illness to help prevent spread of the virus.  Kohlman says she wouldn’t be surprised if cases are eventually found in Fond du Lac County.  When avian flu is detected Kohlman says the only course of action is depopulation.
